High-ranking business delegation visits the Port of Duisburg / Mutual interest in intensifying collaboration Duisburg, 28 September 2015 - A high-ranking business delegation from Hong Kong visited the Port of Duisburg last Thursday. The 25-member delegation was led by Hong Kong's financial secretary John C Tsang. The main topics of discussions were the train connections between Duisburg and China, as well as possibilities for concrete collaborative efforts. During their visit, the delegation visited several logistics centers in the Port of Duisburg, including the logport areal in Duisburg-Rheinhausen - the same location from which a train to China leaves the port every day. The fact that the Port of Duisburg is the starting point and destination of several transcontinental train connections was one of the main reasons for the delegation's visit. In particular, financial secretary Tsang emphasized the strategic location of the Port of Duisburg along the “One Belt, one Road” route: „The Duisburg Port is the world's largest inland port and one of the most important tri-modal (water, railway and road) logistics hubs of the region. It is optimally located at the heart of Europe and directly on the Rhine, Europe's most important waterway, and is within the proximity of Dusseldorf Airport. There are tremendous opportunities for development and co-operation between Hong Kong and Duisburg“. "The delegation's great interest in the duisport logistics hub confirms our continued efforts to expand our activities towards China. As a part of the new Silk Road and the associated direct connection to China's metropolitan business centers, Duisburg is also becoming an increasingly attractive location for Asian investors," says Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG. During their six-day stay in Europe, the delegation led by Hong Kong's financial secretary Tsang also visited Budapest, Warsaw, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt/Main in addition to Duisburg. The purpose of this trip was to strengthen the political and business connections between Hong Kong and Central Europe, and to promote trade relations between the countries along the new Silk Road.
