Over 400,000 bottles of Icelandic Glacial water, donated by the Water for Life Foundation are being sent to Haiti through the Distribution Center at the Port of Richmond.

'The Water for Life Foundation' was founded by Icelandic Glacial water company with the aim to provide life saving fresh water to people in need,' says Jon Olafsson, co-founder and chairman of the Icelandic Glacial Water company which has donated some 230 metric tons or 400,000 bottles of water to aid the victims of the Haiti earthquake. That is more than a bottle per each Icelander. 'In Iceland fresh and pure water is one of our great natural resources and when human tragedy of this magnitude is encountered you share your resources.'

Icelandic Glacial uses shipping company Eimskip to ship water from Iceland to its distribution center at the Port of Richmond. Eimskip also coordinated moving the water bottles with Chesapeake based nonprofit organization Operation Blessing into containers and transporting to the Military Sealift Command in Norfolk where the MSC vessel Bataan carried the Icelandic Glacial water to Haiti this week.

Prior to the massive shipments out of Richmond, Icelandic Glacial had sent water bottles with the Icelandic ICE-SAR team which was among the first to arrive in Haiti following the earthquakes.
