Air Cargo World, a leading international trade magazine, has selected Frankfurt Airport (FRA) as the best major air cargo gateway in Europe. Receiving the highest overall score in its class, FRA has been presented the 2007 Air Cargo Award of Excellence for the category 'Airports in Europe ' 1,000,000 or more tons."

This recognition carries significant weight in the industry because it comes exclusively from cargo experts. The publisher says that the annual Air Cargo Excellence (ACE) survey 'provides quantitative feedback from the airport's cargo customer base of airlines and airfreight forwarders who ship to or through FRA.'

The Award of Excellence is by no means a popularity vote. Rather, Frankfurt won the award 'by achieving superior ratings' from customers in the key areas of handling services, price/performance, facilities and infrastructure for cargo handling, as well as operations of regulatory agencies.

Frankfurt Airport has received numerous awards for cargo excellence from various industry publications over the years. In 2006, Frankfurt Airport handled 2.1 million metric tons of cargo, ranking it number seven worldwide ' the only European airport in the global top 10 (ACI figures).

Cargo has become an important element of the evolving Frankfurt Airport City. Also known as CargoCity Frankfurt, FRA comprises two main airfreight areas ' CargoCity South and CargoCity North ' and features specialized facilities such as the Perishables Center, Airmail Center Frankfurt, and the Frankfurt Airport Animal Station.

Strategic advantages of using FRA include its central location in Europe, advanced ground transportation links, extensive European and global route networks, critical mass of cargo and logistics companies operating onsite, skilled staff, quality ground handling, as well as highly efficient and reliable airport infrastructure and operations.
