From February 25, Fraport Cargo Services GmbH (FCS) will take over cargo handling operations for the Chinese airline China Southern Cargo. FCS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport AG, will be in charge of the handling of five weekly freighter turnarounds flying between the airline’s home airport in Guangzhou and Frankfurt (FRA). The airline also serves the Shanghai-Frankfurt route six times a week. Its fleet consists of several Boeing 777 freighters with have capacity for carrying up to 100 metric tons. Fraport Cargo Services expects to handle an annual volume of 70,000 metric tons for China Southern Cargo in the future. “We are proud that China Southern Cargo has demonstrated its confidence in our expertise and professionalism in the field of cargo handling,” said FCS managing director Diana Schöneich, in response to the acquisition of the new customer. “This further underlines the market position enjoyed by Fraport Cargo Services as the largest neutral provider at Europe’s most important cargo hub.” China Southern Cargo is a member of the SkyTeam Cargo alliance and one of the most important cargo companies at FRA. Formed in 1991, China Southern Airlines is the largest airline in the People’s Republic of China. Since mid-2014, it has operated three weekly passenger flights between Frankfurt, Germany’s largest aviation hub, and the southern Chinese metropolis of Guangzhou (CAN), which is twinned with Frankfurt.
