WASHINGTON, DC - The Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors (CAGTC) praised President-elect Trump on his nomination of Secretary Elaine Chao to his cabinet as head of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). “Secretary Chao has a record of success navigating the federal landscape and delivering results, both as Secretary of Labor and Deputy Secretary of Transportation,” said Elaine Nessle, Executive Director of the Coalition. “The FAST Act contains landmark freight investment programs and there remains much work to be done under the implementation process. We look forward to working with the Secretary and her staff to act as a resource as they undertake implementation of this critical authorization. As President-elect Trump has noted, more investment is needed to keep our economy competitive. CAGTC is ready to assist the new Administration in developing the ‘America’s Infrastructure First’ roadmap, central to which should be a robust freight component.” Unique from other types of infrastructure investment, investment in the nation’s multimodal freight network is an economic multiplier. Not only are jobs created immediately in the construction phase, but an efficient goods movement system will attract and retain U.S. businesses and benefit the economy for years to come. CAGTC looks forward to working with the 115th Congress and the incoming administration to prioritize investment in our multimodal goods movement system.
