GAC Sri Lanka has played a key role in the forty-five kilometers rail track rehabilitation between Galle and Matara. Managed by IRCON International Limited, the project is the beginning phase of government's plan to upgrade a section of approximately 120 kilometers old track between Kalutara and Matara, and expected to be completed by March 2011.

GAC took care of the transportation of 15,000 metric tons of concrete sleepers, intersection, steel girder and other essential parts and equipment to a variety of sites along the track between Galle and Matara.

'We are proud to be involved in this major project. It was a challenging task, but we have been able to prove that our logistics team has a solid teamwork and is well-experienced. We are optimist to continue our support in the second phase next month,' said Preethilal Fernando, Managing Director of GAC Sri Lanka.

A dedicated team of GAC staff has coordinated the delivery of the heavy parts in more than 500 containers shipped over from India, arranging their transportation, de-stuffing and stacking. The importation of material is expected to be completed by end of October 2010.
