Now that the dredging project is complete, GCT New York is officially big ship ready. Close to 50,000 yd3 (38,200 m3) of mud and hard rock were removed from the 1,235 ft (376 m) berth using controlled blasting. Vibrations were closely monitored during the dredging process to ensure that the surrounding community and structures were never disturbed. The terminal is supported by a fleet of post-Panamax cranes and an expanded on-dock rail transfer service. Following the addition of two working tracks, the capacity of GCT New York's intermodal yard has increased by 40%, resulting in more efficient service for our customers. The terminal already has the highest crane productivity in the New York/New Jersey harbor and thanks to this recent deepening, we can now extend that same level of service to even larger vessels.
