In around 60 truck loads, Gebrüder Weiss transported two ski lifts from Austria and Russia to Bakuriani, a Georgian ski resort, for Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH. Lauterach/Bakuriani - The international transport and logistics company once again proved its logistics expertise along the former Silk Road by delivering two complete ski lift systems to the skiing region of Bakuriani, Georgia's winter capital, for Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH. In around 60 truck loads, Gebrüder Weiss transported a total of 1,000 tonnes of ski lift components from the factories of the ski lift specialists in Wolfurt, Austria, and Samara, the Russian industrial capital, to the Caucasus. Georgia is focusing its investments on tourist regions such as Bakuriani and their infrastructure to increase the country's attractiveness as a holiday destination. Great transport competence along the Silk Road "In addition to the exact planning of the three different routes, the quick handling of the necessary customs documents was crucial for the success of the project," reports Alexander Kharlamov, Country Manager Gebrüder Weiss Georgia. The journey along the 3,500 km-long main route took nine days – from Austria via Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Turkey to Georgia. Gebrüder Weiss has its own branches in all of these countries. "Our customers benefit from established transport routes and the great local know-how of our employees concerning infrastructure and laws in these regions," comments Alexander Kharlamov. Gebrüder Weiss recently also transported a helicopter by Wucher Helicopter from Vorarlberg to a winter holiday destination near Tiflis along the same route, which is being used for heli-skiing in the region. The responsible parties decided on road transport due to the costs involved. A 3,000-km flight across Europe would have used twice as much fuel than a fully loaded truck. Gebrüder Weiss in Georgia Gebrüder Weiss has been operating its own branch in Georgia since 2013 and currently employs around 90 people. The location has developed into a central hub between the European and Asian markets. The local portfolio includes road transport, air and sea freight, logistics solutions, customs clearance procedures and project business. Since 2014, Gebrüder Weiss has also been offering its customers a regular groupage freight transport connections from Vienna, Austria, to Tiflis, Georgia and from Sofia, Bulgaria to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
