Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) announced its tonnage throughput for April 2011. A total of 225,791 tons were handled in the month, representing a decrease of 9.3% year-on-year. Cumulative tonnage for the first four months of the year was 876,136 tons, a slight drop of 1.1% year-on-year.

Export volume for April was 122,123 tons, down 11.6% year-on-year. Total export volume for the first four months was 457,236 tons, representing a drop of 4.1% year-on-year.

Import volume for April was 57,748 tons, down 6.4% against April last year. Aggregate import volume for the first four months of 2011 was 233,138 tons, down 1.3% against the same period last year. On account of the quake as well as its subsequent tsunami and nuclear crises, import from Japan in April showed a year-on-year decrease of 28.1%.

The transshipment volume was 45,920 tons in April, dropped by 6.1% year-on-year. Cumulative transshipment tonnage for the first four months was 185,762 tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 7.6%.
