Halifax, Nova Scotia - A major weather event is expected for Halifax and the surrounding area starting sometime this evening, September 30, 2015 and continuing well into October 1, 2015. A rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada. Significant wind is also expected. All of this comes on the first and only five cruise ship day for the Port of Halifax during the 2015 cruise season. Over 8200 cruise passengers plus crew are scheduled to arrive on October 1. The busiest cruise day will take place on October 16, 2015 with over 10-thousand passengers plus crew expected. During weather-related events, the Halifax Port Authority makes every effort to accommodate vessels in need of safe harbour. The Halifax Port Authority works very closely with other marine agencies operating within the harbour such as the Atlantic Pilotage Authority, marine tugs and other service providers. As of 4:00 p.m. September 30, 2015 there have been no cancelled cruise calls for October 1. Two vessels are now due to arrive early; the Crystal Symphony is due to arrive shortly after midnight and the Queen Mary 2 is now scheduled to arrive at 7:00 a.m.
