Washington, DC— The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) is pleased to announce that it has revised its current inspection criteria and processes for dry van containers, to be referred to as “IICL 6”, which will be implemented on a worldwide basis on 1 August 2016. IICL 6 is the result of work by the IICL Technical Committee (TC) to update and harmonize several inspection criteria and processes that had developed over recent years. Benefits of the IICL 6 standard include the simplification and efficiency improvement of procedures for container inspections performed at container depots around the world. All current IICL container leasing member companies, Beacon Intermodal, CAI International, Florens Container Services, SeaCube Containers, TAL International, Textainer Equipment, TOUAX Container, and Triton Container have endorsed and will follow the IICL 6 criteria beginning 1 August 2016. The IICL members believe that the efficiency and effectiveness gains to be achieved by the revised criteria will be a tremendous benefit for container operations, inspection and repair throughout our industry. The revisions to the criteria are posted in Technical Bulletin TB 013 IICL 6 Inspection Criteria and are intended for use in conjunction with the inspection tables in the current Inspection Manual (Guide for Container Equipment Inspection - Fifth Edition - IICL 5). In addition, questions on the revised criteria will be included in the IICL’s 2016 Worldwide Container Inspector Certification Examination that is scheduled on 15 October 2016. The rollout of IICL 6 will include, training of container depot staff, review and refinement of depot practices to achieve proper implementation of the changes, development of a web based training video, and training of leasing company staff. A new Inspection Manual is set for release in the Fall of 2016. This new guide (Guide for Container Equipment Inspection - Sixth Edition – IICL 6) will be a major upgrade and greatly assist the reader in understanding our inspection criteria and nuances for measurement. Organized in 1971, the IICL is a trade association, representing lessors of maritime containers and intermodal chassis. Its member companies, Beacon Intermodal, CAI International, Direct ChassisLink, Flexi-Van Leasing, Florens Container Services, SeaCube Containers, TAL International, Textainer Equipment, TOUAX Container, TRAC Intermodal, and Triton Container own or manage a significant portion of the global leased container and U.S. chassis fleets. The IICL is active in educational, technological, safety, environmental, governmental, regulatory, and security issues. Complementing its widely accepted publications and annual inspector certification examinations, the IICL offers a wide range of educational training courses.
