In 2013, two entrepreneurial-minded railroads – CN and Indiana Rail Road Company – joined for forces to offer Indiana companies an all-rail movement of trans-Pacific containerized goods to/from the West Coast Canadian ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert, B.C., to Indianapolis. It’s a unique kind of partnership among one of North America’s most successful and respected Class I railroads and an equally-successful Class II “Regional” railroad, allowing shippers to move trade from all major Asian ports to Indianapolis with fast, reliable, predictable service and without the hassles of Chicago congestion, weather delays and long-haul drayage. CN is the only North American railroad with its own bypass around the congested Chicago terminal. The cost-competitive CN-INRD service’s greatest benefit is a transit time of as little as 20-21 days from ports such as Shanghai and Qingdao, China, and Busan, South Korea, with room for further transit time enhancement as traffic (volume-based efficiencies) grows. For the benefit of our customers, pricing and online customer service tools are managed by CN from the West Coast to Indianapolis; Indiana Rail Road manages the Senate Avenue Intermodal Terminal in downtown Indianapolis and local customer service.
