Weekday Lane Closures for Bridge Inspections on Interstate 55 over the The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that routine bridge inspections will take place on the structure that carries Interstate 55 over the Des Plaines River, near Channahon, beginning, weather permitting, Monday, August 7. The bridge inspections will require daytime lane closures during the week. In order to complete the work, lane closures will take place on the Interstate 55 bridge over the Des Plaines River. The closures will take place Monday - Thursday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The bridge inspections will begin Aug. 7 on southbound I-55 and move to northbound I-55 on Aug. 14. The inspections are expected to be completed by August 17, weather permitting. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. In past years, traffic has been backed up several miles resulting in several accidents.   Please monitor traffic conditions and consider alternate routes during the daytime hours.
