Dr. William C. Mason to serve as Chairman

The Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) selected new Board Officers for fiscal year 2009 during its monthly meeting, electing William C. Mason, Ed.D. as Board Chairman. Beginning Oct. 1, 2008, he will assume the role from Ricardo Morales, Jr., who will continue to serve as a JAXPORT Board member.

Each fiscal year, JAXPORT’s seven-member Board elects officers from its membership. Officers serve one-year terms. In addition to Dr. Mason, the Board elected the following:

David Kulik, Chairman of ANJI-TNT, was elected Vice Chairman; Reginald Gaffney, President / CEO of Community Rehabilitation Center, was elected Secretary; and entrepreneur L. Buck Fowler was elected Treasurer.

Other members of JAXPORT’s Board are CSX Corp. Executive Andrew B. Fogarty and General Contractor Ricardo Morales, Jr. The seventh member of the Board will be appointed by Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton.

The newly-elected Board Chair, Dr. Mason, is President Emeritus of Baptist Medical Center and recently retired from his post as Foundation President of the Florida Community College at Jacksonville. He was first appointed to JAXPORT's Board of Directors in 2001 by Mayor Peyton and was reappointed to a four-year term in 2005.
