LITTLE ROCK, Ark.  - Total barge tonnage through the Port of Little Rock in July was 56,000 net tons.  Dock activities continue to compare favorably to calendar year 2015 as Logistic Services, Inc. has handled 309 barges during the first half of 2016 year and 466,000 net tons of various commodities have moved across the docks at the Port of Little Rock. Break bulk commodities accounted for 55% of the total river tonnage for July.  Cargoes handled across the docks included urea, rock, wetcake, bauxite, granite fines, wire rod coils, and steel coils.   The US Army Corps of Engineers reports that 841,511 tons of commodities moved through the McClellan-Kerr Navigation System in July 2016 with Little Rock handling about a fifth-tenth of all product shipped in the system for the month. “Although fertilizer season has officially ended, the Port of Little Rock and our stevedoring partners at LSI continue to exceed annual projections for cargo handling across the docks”, said Bryan Day, Executive Director of the Little Rock Port Authority.  “We are watching these activities closely over the next few months; however, we believe total tonnage will remain strong and equal last year’s river activity”, continued Day.
