LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Barge loading and unloading activity at the Port of Little Rock was slightly slower in November with a total of twenty-one barges being worked. Total tonnage handled across the docks for the month of November was slightly over 32,000 net tons.
Commodities handled for the month included: aluminum ingots and sows, DAP, frac sand, lightweight aggregate, potash, rock, sand, scrap, steel coils and wetcake. Ten barges were worked at the slackwater harbor dock; this accounted for approximately 15,000 net tons of cargo. Eleven barges were worked at the main dock; accounting for approximately 17,000 net tons of cargo.
Although the dock operations were relatively slow during November, the Port of Little Rock anticipates an increase in barge traffic for the month of December. For the calendar year 562,000 net tons of cargo have been handled across the docks and the Port of Little Rock is projecting to finish the year with over 600,000 tons of commodities moved across the docks.
