Lufthansa Cargo is raising the price it charges customers to transport freight by 20 percent from October, a source familiar with the matter said.

"The price increase is worldwide," the person told Reuters on Thursday.

Lufthansa Cargo, Europe's biggest air cargo carrier, is also raising its security surcharge by 3 euro cents per kilogramme from October, the person said.

Parent company Lufthansa's Chief Financial Officer Stephan Gemkow had told Reuters Insider last month that the cargo business was "absolutely booming."

Global airlines body International Air Transport Association said that air cargo demand jumped by more than a quarter in June.

But it also warned that growth could flatten as companies finished replenishing inventories they emptied during the global economic crisis. (Reuters)
