Lufthansa Cargo Chief Executive Karl Ulrich Garnadt said he expects the prices that customers pay the carrier to transport goods by air to remain at least stable this year.

"Prices have returned to pre-crisis levels after last year's trough," Garnadt told Reuters in an interview.

Lufthansa Cargo said earlier prices were being supported by the fact air cargo capacity was still in short supply around the world.

"We don't expect any overcapacities (in the industry) in the coming years either," said Garnadt, who took over as CEO of Lufthansa Cargo in January.

Lufthansa has just ordered five new Boeing 777 aircraft to expand its fleet, which now consists mainly of MD-11 freighters, to 23 planes by 2015.

Garnadt said Lufthansa Cargo would also consider aircraft by other plane makers, such as an A350F by Airbus , in the future if there was an alternative to the Boeing 777.

"We will decide on further aircraft orders in two or three years," Garnadt said. (Reuters)
