Ten turbines will be used for renewable projects in communities across Rhode Island  Quonset, RI – The Port of Davisville at Quonset Business Park will play a major role in the development of several renewable energy projects planned for two Rhode Island communities when ten land-based windmill turbines and 30 of their accompanying blades arrive at the Port this week.  From there, they will be transported by truck to a nearby location before being installed in the towns of Coventry and Portsmouth.  Consistently one of the Top 10 auto ports in North America, the Port of Davisville has experienced growth of 547 percent over the past twenty years and recently announced its sixth consecutive record breaking year for automobiles imported at the Port of Davisville in 2015.  The Port is also positioned to be a major hub of activity for Rhode Island’s growing renewables industry.   Governor Raimondo included a $90 million proposal in her state budget to modernize and reconstruct Pier 2 at the Port of Davisville.  The investment would position Quonset to be home base for jobs in the wind energy field, as well as preserve hundreds of jobs in the maritime sector and solidify Davisville’s position as the premiere marine commercial gateway to New England.
