MHG, the manufacturer of one hundred percent biodegradable plastic, announced they met behind closed doors with BASF, the largest chemical company in the world. Dr. Paul Pereira, CEO and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, met with Johannes Becker, Vice President of Strategy in Brussels last week to discuss next steps in a series of initiatives. “The meeting with BASF was very productive,” stated Dr. Paul Pereira. “Sustainability is crucial for the future and BASF is looking to develop more sustainable solutions to meet the demands of society. The biopolymers we produce can provide them with materials that will help them achieve their goals of developing more sustainable products that meet economic, environmental and social needs.” BASF is the world’s leading chemical company. The products they produce include crop protection, chemicals, plastics and performance products. The company strives to create products that allow them to meet the needs of current and future generations through science and innovation. BASF is continuously looking for ways to conserve resources, ensure healthy food and nutrition and improve the overall quality of life. MHG is currently in the process of ramping up their facility to produce their completely biodegradable plastic. The process is expected to be completed by mid 2015, in time for the next canola harvest. The completion of the facility will coincide with the first shipments to customers who currently have contracts with MHG. In addition to the commercialization of their PHA, MHG is now offering a “Specialty Toll Manufacturing” service, which allows clients to capitalize on the experience MHG has in the different processes. The service helps customers meet their demand for specialty products. MHG is currently providing this service to three Fortune 500 companies with other contracts also under negotiations. In a polluted world of plastics where the challenge of "Renewability and Sustainability” has posed a daunting challenge, MHG has successfully been practicing this every day.
