Providing Secondhand Containers to Serve as Emergency Shelters TOKYO—Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) today announced that in May, the company contributed secondhand cargo containers to serve as emergency shelters for those left homeless after the severe earthquake in Ecuador. MOL supplied the containers to the nation’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works through the Ecuadorian Maritime Chamber*. The company is also working with Proecuador** and other organizations to arrange for the transport of drinking water and other relief supplies from the United States. The entire MOL Group hopes for a swift recovery of the disaster-stricken areas. * The Ecuadorian Maritime Chamber was established in 1985 to promote the development of Ecuador’s port and maritime industry. It includes about 150 companies including MOL and other major ocean shipping companies, as well as other maritime-related companies (shipping agencies, forwarders, terminal operators, and so on). ** Proecuador, the Institute for Export and Investment Promotion in the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was established in 2011 to promote the nation’s exports, attract foreign investment, and conduct overseas market research.
