Global Shipping Services, X2 Projects member in the United States, was contracted for a helicopter transport originating from the Middle East en route for the US.
Within the immense scope of the project, Global Shipping Services oversaw the logistical needs of getting this cargo from the point of origin to its destination. The team completed the first major requirement which was to find an ocean vessel. Unfortunately, an unforeseen matter arose when the vessel cancelled a port call which hastened its arrival three days prior to the scheduled timeline. This prompted the company to have a special crew work double time for the prepping of the helicopters. As what was expected, all helicopters were safely secured in the ocean vessel with an onward shipping itinerary bound for US. The vessel voyage was long, docking in many countries on its way to the final point of conveyance in Jacksonville, Florida. The client specifically required the service instead of the direct and short cross Atlantic route as done for the first shipment of two helicopter units. Lead efforts to secure the arrival of the vessel at Jacksonville Port were settled with special meetings with the vessel, port, terminal and truck officials taking place beforehand. More circumstances proved to be challenging with the cargo’s height and weight to be taken into serious consideration. Jim Zino of Global Shipping Services, leading the shipment operation, did all things necessary to overcome delivery odds in face of customs officials advising to immediately terminate the operation. The helicopters had built-in radiation detectors and had a height 12 inches higher than what was initially indicated. Upon finding out, it was concluded that it will be impossible for the helicopters to be moved off the terminal. Zino quickly arranged for new permits and within an hour, secured special escorts to meet the requirements to travel to Florida, Georgia and Alabama. A nine hour trip to the customer’s door and nine hours back to Jacksonville to follow the additional delivery was also overseen by Zino to ensure costumers full satisfaction. The shipment was executed successfully with X2 member, Global Shipping Services awaiting the next call to move additional Helicopters.
