A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Sept. 14 to mark the opening of a new Air Cargo Central Examination facility at H&M International's Customs clearance operation at Newark Liberty International Airport's North Cargo area. The new facility opened one month ahead of schedule. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Customs & Border Protection, H & M International, the Port Authority of NY & NJ, and various air cargo customers. According to CBP Port Director Ed Fox, the new facility is especially significant because it is the first central exam facility (CES) in the country specifically designated for air cargo.  The new CES is four times larger than an older CES facility, and includes the latest laboratory inspection and x-ray equipment, all of which combine to minimize examination time and increase efficiency and customer service to air cargo users. Major air cargo carriers served by the new CES include:
  • American Airlines
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Lufthansa
  • TAP
  • United
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • AGI
  • FedEx
  • UPS
  • World Flight Services
Charles Connors, president and COO of H&M International was in attendance and confirmed that the longstanding cooperation with CBP was a key factor in bringing this state of the art facility to fruition. In addition to Customs clearance, H & M International offers trucking, warehousing, and other logistics services to air, ocean, road, and rail customers.
