Schenker European Logistics Center in Germany allows even shorter reaction times A unique combination of transit hub and logistics warehouse is now accelerating Schenker's European services. Goods received late in the evening reach any destination in Germany - and many of Europe's industrial areas - in the early hours of the following morning. This has been made possible by the new Schenker

European Logistics Center (SELC) in Friedewald, North Hesse in Germany.

The new highly efficient logistics combination of cargo handling and supplementary value-added services bundles Germany's advantages as a logistics site. This is the opinion of Hesse's Minister President Roland Koch. He was present at the opening of Schenker's SELC on July 6, 2005, together with several hundred guests from the fields of industry, trade and politics as well as representatives from numerous associations.

The newly opened Schenker European Logistics Center, located immediately adjacent to Schenker's central hub, offers customers a new logistic quality. Companies which depend on fast, flexible, customized logistics for pan-European procurement or distribution can now use the comprehensive range of services available in the new center. Here goods are temporarily stored, repacked, labeled, checked, picked and made up into new bundles before reaching their recipient via the neighboring central hub without any loss of time.

The new SELC provides storage space for more than 11,000 euro pallets in high-bay storage racks covering an area of approximately 12,000 square meters. Other goods are stored in the 4,500 sq. m. block storage area.

Schenker has another 8,000 pallet spaces here. The 900 sq. m. safety zone for highly sensitive goods is equipped with video surveillance, alarm and sprinkler systems.

Its proximity to Schenker's central hub means that order deadlines are especially late. Orders picked before 8:00 p.m. are fed into the company's own network on the same day, reaching the consignee on the following day. All European destinations can be reached on schedule within a maximum of 72 hours.

In addition, the exchange of goods within Europe is facilitated by daily traffic directly linking Schenker's central hub with France, Slovenia, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden and the Czech Republic. The Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were also linked to the central hub and SELC as of July 4, 2005. For other regions of central Europe, the combination of SELC and central hub is the interface to Schenker's global airfreight and seafreight.
