Kuala Lumpur - Northport (Malaysia) Berhad, a member of MMC Group won the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Silver Award for 2016 in the Logistics and Transportations category, at the MSOSH 35th Annual Award Presentation Ceremony for its initiatives in maintaining a high standard of safety and health practices. The award presentation was witnessed by the Honourable Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Dato' Sri Richard Riot Anak Jaem at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Northport won based on the selection criteria which include complying with regulations set by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH), constant promotion and communications on safety practices as well as demonstrating leadership commitment towards safety and health. “We have rolled out new guidelines on safety and health measures to create a safer environment for Northport employees and our port users. At the same time, we have introduced various initiatives to change the culture and mindset of our team to achieve our goal of becoming Malaysia’s preferred gateway port”, said Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport.  Among the new initiatives introduced by the Northport is Health, Safety and Environment Omission Notification, a mechanism designed to enforce safety compliance to the port users, contractors and employees within the port premises. Northport has since successfully implemented various HSE initiatives such as the Safety Day programme held in conjunction with the 2017 World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Buckle Up Safety Campaign as well as safety measures for its customers, which includes shuttle service arrangement for the crew of vessels exiting/entering the port area and the usage of vehicle stickers on all vehicles entering the port premises to ensure that only authorised vehicles are allowed to enter the port area. “This award is a testament to the commitment and dedication of Northport in adopting industry’s best practices in OSH. It is also a recognition for our relentless efforts in continuously improving safety and health standards at Northport”, said Dato’ Azman. MSOSH is one of the oldest Non-Governmental Organisations in the country, advocating and supporting the Government's efforts in promoting OSH nationally.
