FPInnovations’ Performance Innovation Transport (PIT) group, a not-for-profit engineering and research group for the North American trucking industry, today announced that Marius Surcel, technical leader, will serve on a panel focused on Fuel Economy Testing for Commercial Vehicle Aerodynamics during the SAE 2014 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress (COMVEC), October 7-9, 2014 at the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. “Having played a key role in PIT’s controlled test-track fuel efficiency studies of trailer aerodynamic devices, Marius will bring a unique perspective to this important discussion,” said Yves Provencher, director of the PIT group. “ His experience in testing over 230 fuel efficiency products will serve him well as an expert on this panel to help commercial-vehicle industry leaders and innovators focus on aerodynamics and to accelerate the implementation of fuel efficient technology.” The PIT group recently released the results of five years of performance evaluations that showed significant fuel economy improvement on trailers equipped with side skirts and undercarriage aerodynamic devices. The tests were conducted during PIT’s semi-annual Energotest in accordance with SAE J1321 Fuel Consumption Test Procedure - Type II. The 2014 COMVEC event for aerodynamic leaders will cover perspectives from across all commercial vehicle sectors with presentations by leading experts representing seven countries from four continents. Program content ranges from fundamental technology to regulatory solutions presented by a mix of OEMs, suppliers, testing, academia and government. For more information, visit www.sae.org/events/cve/
