CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Port of Corpus Christi is pleased to announce that it has earned the Green Marine Certification by Green Marine, a voluntary environmental certification program for the North American marine industry.  In recognition of exemplary performance in environmental management and leadership, the Port of Corpus Christi was the first port in Texas to become Green Marine certified. The highly selective, rigorous Green Marine certification process requires organizations to benchmark annual environmental performance, and be externally audited.  Other organizations that have been named include Port of Seattle, Port Everglades, Port of New Orleans, Ceres Terminals, Glencore, Kinder Morgan Westridge Terminal, Marine Atlantic; and many more.  “The Port of Corpus Christi has once again demonstrated its leadership in achieving this certification in line with the port’s commitment to improving air quality, water quality, soils and sediments, wildlife habitat, and sustainability,” said Sean Strawbridge, Port Corpus Christi Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.  “A hearty congratulations to all port staff who have worked diligently to achieve this milestone.” Green Marine’s environmental program offers a template for port authorities, terminal operators, and shipping lines to voluntarily reduce their environmental footprint. The comprehensive program addresses key environmental issues using up to 7 performance indicators for ports and seaports that include reducing air emissions, minimizing community impacts, and demonstrating environmental leadership.
