Governor Larry Hogan today announced that 913,139 tons of general cargo and  49,971 containers were handled at the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore’s public marine terminals in March, establishing two new monthly records.  The previous record for general cargo was 900,947 tons set in April 2014, while the previous container record was 46,927 set in October 2014.   “When the Port succeeds, Maryland succeeds,” said Governor Hogan.  “This record-setting performance helps grow the state’s economy and demonstrates that the Port of Baltimore is one of the most efficient and productive ports in the country.”  Compared to March 2014, general cargo, which includes containerized goods, autos, forest products, and roll on/roll off (farm and construction) equipment, was up 14 percent while containers were up 53 percent.  Last year, the Port set new annual records by handling 9.7 million tons of general cargo and 484,410 containers.
