New direct service connects Boston to Kingston, Jamaica transshipment hub

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced that CMA CGM (America) LLC has added the Port of Boston to its new Black Pearl Service rotation. The new service will connect Boston to CMA CGM’s mega trans-shipment hub in Kingston, Jamaica opening up new opportunities for New England shippers to connect to the CMA CGM worldwide network. The direct service will call at Conley Container Terminal in South Boston fortnightly with containership Stadt Berlin making her maiden call to the Port of Boston on March 23rd.

“We are pleased to welcome the new CMA CGM service to the Port of Boston,” said Michael A. Leone, Port Director for Massport. “The addition of another direct service carrier connects New England’s trade-dependent companies to 52 new ports in the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, South America, and Australia/New Zealand.”

According to CMA CGM, the Black Pearl Service will deploy an 1,100 TEU vessel on a 14-day port rotation of New York/Boston/Halifax/Kingston. The service is primarily set up to cater to perishable, temperature-sensitive and out-of-gauge cargo shipments.
