In January, the Port of Everett contracted with Green Funnel Agency (GFA), represented by Vincent Sullivan, to serve as the Port’s Midwest Agent to help facilitate and generate additional cargo opportunities. GFA, based in New Buffalo, Michigan, specializes in the movement of high and heavy cargo. Sullivan will be working on behalf of the Port of Everett with the railroad and other companies to identify westbound boxcar cargo opportunities from the Midwest to the Port of Everett. He will be actively soliciting project cargo business from the freight forwarder community and collaborating with ocean carriers calling the port of Everett to identify cargo business opportunities.  "We're looking forward to working with the Port of Everett, because of their focus on high-value over dimensional cargoes," Sullivan said. "The size of the Port is appealing, because business decisions will be more nimble than the larger ports. This will allow us to be more effective in our business recruitment efforts.” A large part of our cargo mix is high and heavy export cargoes that originate from the Midwest, said Carl Wollebek, Chief Operating Officer for the Port of Everett. “Having a presence in the Midwest will allow us to maximize our market exposure and better communicate the advantages of moving cargo through the Port of Everett,” Wollebek said. “We are looking forward to working with Green Funnel Agency to bring heightened awareness to all we have to offer.” Over the last several years, the Port of Everett has invested more than $50 million in upgraded facilities, rail, equipment and technologies to improve customer service and the movement of cargo through Everett. “We are committed to excellent service, quick turnaround times, cost competitiveness and being able to meet our customer’s cargo handling needs,” Wollebek said. “By partnering with GFA and Vincent, we are hoping to have more customers see the value of bringing their cargo through Everett.”
