The Port of Montreal took part in a ceremony celebrating recent investments made by Logistec in its Contrecoeur facilities. Logistec's investment in the Contrecoeur terminal of close to $12 million over the past three years, including the installation of a new rail-mounted hopper and a Liebherr LPS 420 crane, make it possible to handle larger volumes of goods and considerably extend the service offered to the company's clients. In turn, these investments significantly improve the service available on the territory of the Port of Montreal, because in addition to loading bulk cargo, Logistic's capacities now include handling break-bulk, project cargo, and heavy lift. These investments strengthen the longstanding partnership between the Port of Montreal and Logistec. "More than twenty years ago, Logistec became the first stevedoring company to operate on this territory acquired by the Montreal Port Authority. Together, we took a chance on joining forces. I am delighted by your growth here in Contrecoeur, which has continued unabated for several years," stated Sylvie Vachon, President and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority, at this event. Since 2011-2012, the Port of Montreal itself has invested $2 million in its Contrecoeur facilities to rebuild a handling area, renovate a passageway and reconstruct aqueducts and storm sewers to provide high quality infrastructures. Several commodity suppliers have already chosen this Port of Montreal site as a multi-user distribution centre. The strategic location of the Contrecoeur terminal provides direct access to railways, highways and barge transportation. "With the upgrades that we've put in place, Logistec's Contrecœur terminal is now one of the most modern, efficient bulk-handling facilities along the St. Lawrence River," explained Madeleine Paquin, President and CEO of Logistec. "We foresee a bright future for this vital part of our network."
