Expanded schedule begins June 15, brings more outdoor movies
The Port of Long Beach is once again sponsoring free events across Long Beach this summer. Make room on your calendar, the action-packed summer starts June 15 and doesn’t slow down until fall. For the summer of 2017, the ever popular Moonlight Movies on the Beach will be back with movies playing at two new beaches. Moonlight Movies on the Beach will continue to be held at Granada Beach on Tuesday evenings, while this year Thursday night movies will be shown at Cherry Beach or Alamitos Beach. Adding to the list of Port-sponsored outdoor movies, the Port has partnered with the City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department to support Be S.A.F.E. Movies in the Park. The goal of the Be S.A.F.E. (Safe Activities in a Friendly Environment) Movies is to provide family-friendly activities in a safe environment. The movies will be shown at parks across the city. In addition to outdoor movies, the Port is also supporting many free concerts and other events this summer. Municipal Band concerts, the Summer and Music concert series in downtown Long Beach, the Willmore S.L.A.M.—Season of Live Arts and Music concerts—and Uptown Jazz Festival are just a few. “Supporting free summer activities for Long Beach residents allows the Port to meet face-to-face with the local community. Expanding our outreach to more Long Beach neighborhoods is key. We are excited to help people learn more about the Port while having fun with their families this summer,” said Board of Long Beach Harbor Commissioners President Lori Ann Guzmán. It all kicks off sundown, Thursday, June 15, with a screening of “Rogue One – A Star Wars Story” on the sand at Granada Beach, just off Ocean Boulevard at Granada Avenue in Belmont Shore.
