Experts to discuss peak shipping season at March 19 event

Will it be a peak, plateau or valley? Or will the 2008 busy season for shipping be just plain unpredictable?

Find out what the experts are predicting at this year's "Pulse of the Ports" peak season forecast conference hosted by the Port of Long Beach. The event will be at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, 200 S. Pine Avenue, 7:30 a.m. on March 19.

Find out how the softening import market, national economic outlook, federal TWIC security requirements, labor negotiations and other factors will affect Port cargo traffic.

The three-hour event, which draws several hundred attendees each year, brings together economic experts, importers, terminal operators, labor leaders and other transportation industry professionals to discuss issues related to the ports, the economy, consumer demand and more.

The scheduled speakers are: Paul Bingham, Principal of Global Insight; Charles Woo, CEO of Megatoys; Brian Black, Senior VP of Hyundai Merchant Marine; Frank Pisano, VP of TraPac; Doug Tilden, CEO of Ports Americas Group; Mike Mitre, President of ILWU Local 13; John Kaiser, VP and General Manager for Union Pacific's Intermodal Marketing; and Vic la Rosa, President of TTSI, a trucking firm.
