LOWELL, Ark. – Purkeys, a company that has engineered many other innovative electrical solutions for the commercial trucking industry, has developed the 5th Wheel Light, a small LED light device that eliminates shadows on the king pin lock-jaw mechanism, a common cause of unsecured and dropped trailers. “The key advantage to this system is safety,” said Larry Rambeaux, Purkeys’ Sales and Service Engineer. “Every fleet in America has problems with tractors dropping trailers.”  Rambeaux says that when a vehicle is equipped with the 5th Wheel Light, there’s no way a driver can’t see to verify that the king pin is completely locked. The 5th Wheel Light uses 9 bright LED lights to illuminate the locking mechanisms with no need for a flashlight. This makes the task of coupling the truck and trailer safer and easier, freeing drivers’ hands as they secure the king pin. The light connects to the battery and turns on automatically whenever the driver puts the vehicle in reverse, and stays on for a customizable duration.  When drivers can easily confirm that their trailer is safely attached, chances of experiencing dropped trailers can be reduced within a fleet. The 5th Wheel Light from Purkeys presents a simple solution to keep drivers safe and on-schedule.
