November 2014 was a month of new records for Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) – Hong Kong’s largest cargo handler. During the month, Hactl handled a record 5,238 tons of export cargo on 9th November, only to break this again on 23rd November with a new record of 5,456 tons. A new weekly record of 29,031 tonnes of exports was set in the week 10th-16th November. Hactl total tonnage handled in a single day reached a record of 6,979 tons on 9th November, and this was broken again on 23rd November with a new figure of 7,292 tons. A new weekly record total of 41,107 tons was also set in the week ending 30th November. Hactl total tonnage for the month of November also broke the previous record of 164,743 tons set in November 2013, with a new figure of 176,103 tons. Among factors contributing to the latest Hactl records have been growing US west coast port congestion, traditional traffic peaks related to Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the launch of new mobile products. Says Hactl Chief Executive Mark Whitehead: “2014 has proven a strong year for Hactl, exceeding our expectations. We congratulate our 100 airline customers on their market success, and are pleased that our ongoing investments in the best staff and systems are clearly making an impact.” “We look forward to setting new records again in 2015!” Records also set earlier in 2014 are daily imports (2,081 tons on 25th April), weekly imports (12,515 tons in the week 23rd-29th June) and monthly imports (52,693 tons in March).
