SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Employees from Sasser Family Holdings, based in Schaumburg,  continued their support of a worthwhile cause earlier this month by participating in Walk MS, an annual event hosted by the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National MS Society. This year’s Walk MS was held at Sunset Park in Lake in the Hills. Sasser Family Holdings employees who are part of Change for the Better, the company’s philanthropic arm, raised more than $24,000, all of which will go to the National MS Society’s Greater Illinois Chapter to help fund research and assist families in the state living with MS. According to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation estimates, more than 400,000 people in the United States have MS, and about 200 new cases are diagnosed each week. Some of those living with MS include family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Change for the Better team members have participated in Walk MS since 2012 and have committed to raising more than $100,000 to benefit the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National MS Society. Kathie Jarzombek, License & Title/Tax manager for Union Leasing, and Jo Davidson, Client Service Manager for Union Leasing, one of Sasser Family Holdings’s subsidiaries, co-lead Change for the Better’s participation and fundraising beginning each March during MS Awareness Month.  In April, Change for the Better hosts Bowl for a Cure – MS Fundraiser and Silent Auction. Walk MS takes place on the first Sunday of each May, with additional fundraising and support throughout the summer.  “The event was definitely a success and I’m proud to work for a company and with co-workers who sincerely care about helping people,” Jarzombek said. “We had an outstanding fundraising year. More than 60 people came to support our specific team. Some drove from as far away as Wisconsin and Indiana to come walk with us even though the weather was horrible. To have so many people come out at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning was very heartwarming.” Kelly Pronek, Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Marketing for Sasser Family Holdings, says the company understands the importance of volunteering for causes--especially those that can affect employees and their families. “Giving back is part of the cultural DNA of our family of companies and we consider it an honor to support the Illinois chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society,” Pronek said. “Two of our employees were diagnosed with MS within 24 months of each other, so this resonates with us on a personal level. We are proud to support an organization that touches so many lives and look forward to building upon the momentum that Change for the Better has generated for years to come.” About Change for the Better As part of the long-term vision of Sasser Family Holdings, we believe it is important to serve our communities through impactful social responsibility programs.
