Amsterdam, The Netherlands - The awards, which take place each year to recognise the contributions of Royal Schiphol Group’s business partners, were presented during a ceremony at Arendshoeve, Garden of Amsterdam. Winners from six categories received their awards from Birgit Otto, Chief Operations Officer, and André van den Berg, Chief Commercial Officer, both of Royal Schiphol Group. “Each year, Royal Schiphol Group presents aviation awards to business partners which have distinguished themselves through innovative business operations or positive performance,” said Otto. “Royal Schiphol Group is proud to work with such innovative business partners.” KLM Cargo won the Cargo Award for its connection optimisation project that significantly speeds up and enhances the efficiency of European supply chains. Reusing and improving existing information has led to a 20% improvement in lead times on the Frankfurt-Amsterdam route and has significantly improved the predictability of the chain. Judges commented that the project is “a great step forward in creating a more efficient and transparent supply chain,” and that “planning trucking from Frankfurt to Amsterdam has improved considerably!” “We are very happy with this recognition; it’s an award for the industry,” said Marcel de Nooijer, EVP, KLM-Air France Martinair Cargo. “Only by working closely together with a transparent mindset can we innovate, and stay ahead of competition. “This project, in which we optimise connections, is a Community effort, in which Jan de Rijk, Swissport, Kuehne + Nagel, Dutch Customs, Schiphol, and Cargonaut have, under the umbrella of NLIP, joined forces to see how we can reuse and improve existing information to improve quality. “Our efforts are paying off; in just four months we have seen a 20% improvement in quality on the lane Frankfurt-Amsterdam. “Moreover, we have improved the predictability of the chain, because we are better able to see which shipments have a long and short connection, which enables an even better optimisation. “This success has encouraged us to implement this concept to our other 90 stations in Europe.” “There is a strong community at Schiphol cargo, and the success of this initiative has been made possible through effective collaboration with our partners,” said Jonas van Stekelenburg, Cargo Director, Schiphol Cargo. AirBridge Cargo and Pharma Gateway Amsterdam were the other nominees in the Cargo Award category, and received a certificate of recognition on the night.
