Lagos, Nigeria - Sinohydro Corporation Ltd., a leading Chinese infrastructure development contractor, has awarded Damco the contract for managing shipments to Sinohydro’s Zunguru hydroelectric power project in Nigeria. Zunguru is one of several of Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Master Plan projects. The government of Nigeria aims to increase renewable electricity from 13% of total electricity generation in 2015 to 23% in 2025 and 36% by 2030. Sinohydro will import large volumes of fly ash and raw materials to Nigeria, as well as construction equipment. Imports from China are moved through the major South Atlantic port of Lagos to the construction project sites. Besides the shipments, Damco handles the transit clearance of the cargoes in the arrival sea ports as well. “Damco’s relationship with Sinohydro began in 2011.
