Carrier to utilize MobileMax units with Cingular's digital wireless data network technology

GeoLogic Solutions announced that Birmingham, Alabama-based Southern Cal Transport, Inc. has renewed its service agreement with GeoLogic and will upgrade the fleet's 400 MobileMaxTM mobile communications and fleet management systems with GeoLogic's new Cingular Wireless GPRS data solution. Southern Cal's fleet includes Southern Cal Transport, a long-haul transcontinental dry van carrier operating from the Southeast to the West Coast, and its Eagle Motor Lines Division, a regional dry van carrier that primarily serves customers from the Northeast and Southeast to Florida and to select areas in Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.

'We initially chose the MobileMax system for its highly reliable multi-mode communications capability and lower cost of operation,' said Danny Blalock, vice president of operations. 'The decision to renew our contract and upgrade to GPRS-equipped MobileMax units was based on our satisfaction with the performance of both the system and the company, and after considering alternatives, we realized that MobileMax was still the most reliable and least expensive communications and tracking device on the market.'

According to Southern Cal President Ken Adams, the company is anticipating improvements in driver retention, business processes and customer service due to the increased speed and reliability the new GPRS systems will provide in communicating to and from trucks. 'Being able to provide fast, accurate answers to customers' questions and demands by tracking vehicles and sending messages more quickly are just some of the benefits of this new solution,' he stated. 'Another benefit is driver friendliness'which translates into driver retention and satisfaction. Overall, we believe the MobileMax system will help us keep our promise of delivering on time.'

Late last year, GeoLogic Solutions announced that its customers now have the Cingular high-speed digital data GPRS network as an additional communications option. The new choice provides expanded terrestrial wireless coverage, faster data rates and increased data capabilities such as wireless downloads of mobile software. The Cingular GPRS network is available to new customers and as an upgrade option for existing MobileMax users.

'The impressive performance of the GPRS network has had a very positive impact on our customers' operations,' said Sean Dorney, vice president of sales and marketing for GeoLogic Solutions. 'We are pleased that Southern Cal Transport made the decision to upgrade and know they will be very happy with the results.'
