Nick Sramek was named to his second consecutive term as President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Monday, June 21, by his fellow commissioners as part of the commission’s annual board officers selection.

Sramek, who was appointed to the Harbor Commission in 2007, was first selected as president in June 2009 to replace the outgoing commissioner James C. Hankla in the top position.

The five-member Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners is the governing body of the Port of Long Beach, which is the Harbor Department of the City of Long Beach. The commissioners vote on financial and policy decisions for the Port of Long Beach -- the second largest container seaport in the United States.

The commission votes on the board officer lineup – President, Vice President, Secretary and Vice Secretary -- each June for one-year terms beginning the following July.

The Commission President serves as chair of the commission, running board meetings and often representing the Port to the public and shipping industry.

Commissioner Susan E. Anderson Wise, who joined the Board in 2008, was selected as Vice President. Dr. Mike Walter, who has served on the Commission since 2005, was named Secretary; while Mario Cordero, appointed to the Commission in 2003, was named Vice Secretary. All terms will start July 1.

Sramek, a lifetime resident of Long Beach’s Westside, is a senior project leader for The Aerospace Corporation, based in El Segundo. Prior to his Harbor Commission appointment, he served for seven years on the Long Beach Planning Commission. He is former president of the West Long Beach Neighborhood Association and founder of the West Long Beach Business Association.
