Recently SWISS has successfully launched a non-stop flight between Zurich and Shanghai; the new daily A-340 connection has increased Swiss WorldCargo's capacity to and from China by 36 tons per day.

The eighth largest city in the world, Shanghai is widely regarded as the metropolis of China's modern economy. Being the centre of finance and trade, Shanghai has also a strong base in manufacturing and technology. In terms of container traffic, it's the third busiest port in the world, with machinery, high-tech products, chemicals and textiles as major commodities.

SWISS' flight LX189 departs Shanghai at 09:30 and arrives in Zurich at 15:40. The return flight LX188 leaves Zurich at 13:05 and lands in Shanghai at 06:35 the next morning (all local times). The total flight time is 12 hours and 25 minutes. SWISS is operating the Shanghai-Zurich daily non-stop flights with an Airbus A340-300, offering 18 tons of capacity in both directions.

"Swiss exports to China increased 35% over the last three years and imports to Switzerland from China increased 16% in 2007. It is therefore a great challenge to position our brand and quality offerings in Shanghai, our second online station within the Greater China Area," Dieter Vranckx, Managing Director Asia, Africa and Middle East comments. "The new flight will enable our customers to take advantage of Swiss WorldCargo's premium services to ensure high quality delivery of general cargo and special products across our global network."
