The Port of Montreal a partner in the Contrecoeur-Varennes industrial port zone

The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) took part in the signing of the collaboration agreement to implement the Contrecoeur-Varennes industrial port zone. The event organized by the government of Quebec took place this morning, September 15, at Contrecoeur. Signatories in addition to the Quebec government and the MPA are the cities of Contrecoeur and Varennes, Marguerite-D’Youville Regional County Municipality and the Montreal Metropolitan Community. Under this agreement, the government will fund up to 70% of costs associated with implementing the related development plan, to a maximum of $125,000. MPA President and CEO Sylvie Vachon spoke at the ceremony: “A port is a magnet that attracts companies and services with added value. We can say so because that’s exactly what we have experienced here and in Montreal since the Port was created! “For over 30 years, the Port of Montreal has seen Contrecoeur as a prime location for future growth in container traffic. We began the planning and development of a terminal that could handle 1.15 million TEUs. A development plan like this featuring an industrial port zone can only improve the value of our container market development project and strengthen the presence of dry bulk operations. “Furthermore, the development of industrial port zones, like the one announced this morning, dovetails with our business strategy, called Port+, which aims to pool efforts toward common issues and opportunities, and to provide value-added services close to port facilities. “The future is promising in Contrecœur and Varennes!”
