Williston, Fla. – A historic locomotive has a new purpose and lease on life, thanks to Total Quality Logistics’ Moves That Matter program. TQL made a $1,000 gift to Kirby Family Farm to assist with the cost of relocating and restoring a historic locomotive. Once complete, the locomotive will be used as a teaching tool for at-risk students. Moves That Matter benefits non-profit organizations who use the truckload transportation industry to move items that will help those in need. TQL employees, customers or carriers can nominate non-profit organizations with whom they have worked to help move an important load of freight.  KFF is located on 174 acres in Williston, Fla., southwest of Gainesville. Established in 2011 and granted 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2014, it has Florida’s largest private railroad and offers educational, historical, recreational, agricultural and community enrichment programs. "We work with all kinds of kids, from mental disorders to physical disabilities, from foster children to school groups," said Daryl Kirby, co-founder. “We don’t discriminate. “We are so grateful for this grant. There are good budgets, there are bad budgets and then there’s Kirby Family Farm. We have no budget. This thing only works because people are willing to help. More than the grant, the power of TQL to move these locomotives for us is something we never could have done on our own.” “We are pleased to make this gift to Kirby Family Farm,” said Kerry Byrne, TQL president. “They are doing great work to reach at-risk students and help them learn about history, nature and business.”  Moves That Matter began in 2014 with a gift to the Where Angels Play Foundation. TQL learned it was entrusted to move the equipment to build the last six of 26 Connecticut playgrounds constructed in memory of each victim of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.  Moves That Matter is one of the many programs administered by TQL Cares, the company’s employee-driven community service initiative.
