Inland river transportation plays an important economic role here in Northeast Oklahoma. There were 180,442 tons of waterborne cargo shipped through the Tulsa Port of Catoosa during the month of July, 2017. One of the most significant types of goods shipped through the Port each month is manufactured equipment built in the region and moved by water to final destinations all over the globe. Long-time Tulsa companies like FabWell Corporation, which designs and fabricates equipment in Tulsa, utilize the Port to serve their customers located across the country. FabWell structurally designs and fabricates all types of pressure vessels, including tray towers, fractionators, contactors, reactors, drums, separators, agitators and mixers. In short, Fabwell fabricates solutions for coal gasification, oil refining, plastics production, and more. In addition to being based in Tulsa, FabWell also sources local companies for material purchases, painting, insulation, post-weld heat treament, trucking, barging and rail transportation. “We have been serving Tulsa for more than 50 years,” said Sherry Barnes of FabWell Corporation. “And we work to serve our customers that come into the Port or ship quality materials wherever needed. Utilizing the Port’s infrastructure dramatically increases our ability to do these two things.” Recently, FabWell built a piece of equipment called an acid settler that weighed 415,000 pounds when completed. The acid settler was built for Fluor Corporation and then shipped through the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, by barge, to the state of Illinois. The Port’s oversize and over-dimensional capabilities allow regional companies like FabWell to continue to operate and thrive in Oklahoma. “Because of the Port of Catoosa, and the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, local manufacturers are able to continue to serve national and international markets from facilities based right here in Oklahoma”, said Chip McElroy, Port Authority Chairman. “It’s an incredibly important facet of our economy”. Fabwell has been a part of Tulsa’s economy since 1967. “Our strong commitment to customer satisfaction through team manufacturing has established us an industry leader,” Barnes said. Fabwell has served as a supplier of pipeline-related equipment and ASME code pressure vessels. Fabwell designs and fabricates equipment in accordance with the provisions of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and 2 of the pressure vessel code, ASME Section 1 of the Power Boiler Code and B31.1, B3.4 and B31.8 of the ASME/ANSI Piping Code, and is authorized to use ASME Code S, U, US & R stamps.
