Cumulative barge tonnage for the Tulsa Port of Catoosa through June is 1,325,816 tons, which marks a 24 percent increase over last year’s numbers. To handle the largest of cargo transfers, the Tulsa Port of Catoosa  operates a roll-on/roll-off, low water wharf. This public dock can handle any size, over-dimensional, or overweight project cargo. “If you’ve ever seen cargo and thought it was too big or too heavy  for the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, think again,” said Chip McElroy, Tulsa Port Authority Board Chair. “If you use our Ro/Ro, there are no restrictions on size or weight. If the barge can carry it, this is your ticket to ride.” The low water wharf has been used for single cargo pieces exceeding  600 tons. These types of loads can be driven directly onto and off of flat-deck barges using rail cars, trucks or wheeled transporters. “Our low water wharf helps so many of our clients achieve their  shipping needs where there are no other options,” McElroy said. “We haul refinery equipment, generators, heavy wall vessels, industrial heating machinery, large vehicles and more over our mega wharf.” In addition, the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority Board  recently approved plans and specifications for a Low Water Wharf Rehabilitation Project, which will replace more than 14,000 square feet of new concrete pavement on the wharf area.  The construction is currently underway and will be complete soon.
