United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), owned by six Arabian Gulf States (Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and U.A.E.) formally took delivery of its new ship at a specially organized delivery and naming ceremony held at Ulsan in Korea. The ceremony was well attended by key officials of UASC and HHI.

H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly, UASC Board Member-Saudi Arabia bestowed the name M.V. Jazan and took delivery of the new ship. 'Jazan' means determination to succeed. Jazan is the name of one of the 13 provinces in the south west of Saudi Arabia, which is famous for producing tropical fruits and fishing. Jazan is also the name of the capital city of that province and is a major seaport on the Red Sea.'

M. V. Jazan is the sixth A7 ship built by Hyundai Heavy industries Limited for UASC against an order for eight ships. The new ships have enormous capacity and can load 6919 teu containers and can operate at a service speed of 25.5 knots per hour. They can load 459 FEU units of reefer containers and are also equipped to transport hazardous cargoes.

Speaking on behalf of United Arab Shipping Company, H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly thanked the Management and the employees of Hyundai, Schiffko and UASC teams for delivering hull no. 1837 well ahead of the contracted delivery time. The first five ships delivered under this project, are performing well in UASC's service network and M. V. Jazan will further add to the capacity of the company in meeting the increasing demand for cost-effective and efficient shipping regionally and internationally.

Finally, he thanked HHI management for their warm hospitality and to all the distinguished guests for attending these celebrations. He wished the very best for HHI and UASC.
