HAMBURG - The Taiwan Flour Millers’ Association has purchased 97,420 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender that closed on Wednesday, European traders said. The wheat was sought in two consignments - the first for shipment from Aug. 8-22 and the second for shipment from Aug. 25 to Sept. 8, they said. The purchase for the first consignment comprised 16,950 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein content bought at $276.24 a tonne fob, 15,750 tonnes of northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein bought at $274.24 a tonne fob and 16,050 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 13 percent protein content bought at $252.14 a tonne fob, traders said. The first consignment has an additional charge of $22.94 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific northwest coast to Taiwan, they said. The second consignment comprised 21,850 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein content bought at $276.10 a tonne fob, 14,100 tonnes of hard red winter of 13 percent protein content bought at $252.00 a tonne fob and 12,720 tonnes of soft white wheat of 10.5 percent protein bought at $256.60 a tonne fob, traders said. The second consignment has an additional charge of $22.80 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific northwest coast to Taiwan, they said. The wheat was all purchased from trading house ADM, they said. The association is a traditional buyer of U.S. wheat.
