Port Metro Vancouver has approved an application by Global Grain Group (G3) to build a new high throughput grain export terminal at the port.
G3 is a new grain company built from the remnants of the former Canadian Wheat Board and purchased by Bunge and the state-owned Saudi Agricultural Livestock Investment Company.
The firm has also launched plans to build high throughput grain handling terminals throughout Western Canada and a network of high speed inland terminals with highly efficient export terminals. Karl Gerrand, chief executive officer of G3 told AJOT the company plans to build a “loop-to-loop” system able to load 134 rail cars on the Prairies in less than 10 hours, get them to port and unload them in less than six hours.
