AMI – the world’s largest trade-only airfreight and express wholesaler – has appointed Rinaldo Vels to the newly-created position of VP Continental Europe. Vels has spent over ten years in the airfreight industry working for forwarders, AMI’s parent Menzies Aviation and, most recently, as Commercial Director of Jan de Rijk Logistics. In his new post, Vels will be responsible for developing AMI’s business throughout Continental Europe; the company currently has a branch covering the Frankfurt market. Based at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Vels will report to Sharon Wright, AMI’s Regional VP Europe, who comments: “We believe that Europe presents substantial opportunities to further expand AMI’s reach, using the highly-successful model that was launched in the UK 37 years ago, and which has since been rolled out across the USA, Australasia, Africa and Asia. “Rinaldo’s extensive experience spanning forwarding, handling and airfreight road haulage means he has an unusually broad insight into the industry that should help us to identify and execute many new opportunities to serve the forwarder- and courier sectors.”
