We have received word that six Volga-Dnepr Airlines crew members were among the guests murdered by terrorists at the Radisson-Blu Hotel in Bamako, Mali. Many Airforwarders Association forwarders are customers of Volga-Dnepr for the transportation of outsized and heavy cargo shipments in its Antonov AN-124 and other aircraft. The employees were at the hotel resting after completing a mission from Oslo when the attack occurred. The recent terrorist related events in Paris, Egypt and Mali remind us of the importance of security not only in our daily lives but the air cargo industry as well. As freight forwarders, we join our airline partners in continuing to be on the front line of these efforts and realize our vigilance must continue. The U.S. Airforwarders Association extends its deepest sympathy to the families of these crew members and the Volga-Dnepr organization at this sad time.
